Amanda Kenney

Advisor

Amanda has dedicated herself to the field of education for over fifteen years, working with students from elementary to collegiate levels, with a focus on high school students. Her goal is to assist and encourage students through advising, along with being a valuable part of our essay review team.

She brings with her a B. A. in English Secondary Education from Wilson College and graduate coursework in Effective Teaching at Wilkes University. She also founded her own tutoring business in 2009 and has taught English Literature, Public Speaking, Executive Functioning Skills, and more. She is a former board member of The Alumnae Association of Wilson College and a published author for Pennsylvania's Best Emerging Poets for three consecutive years. Amanda has targeted training and experience working with a diverse group of learners, including those with neurodivergent characteristics. Her goal is to bring both empathetic support and education to students, while implementing a comfortable, friendly, and often humor-filled atmosphere.

An advocate for lifelong learning, Amanda is always writing something and in the middle of multiple books at once. When not working, she spends her time with her husband and two children (one in middle school and the other about to begin his junior year of college). She loves baking, gardening, home projects, and binging stand-up comedy with her husband late into the evenings.

Testimonials

quote

"The best parts of Avalon were all of the essay help and the college list creation process. From the brainstorming in meetings to the incredible feedback, Avalon provided so much help on my essays. Additionally, the personality tests and interest forms helping to sort through the arduous task of finding colleges that align with what I value really helped me through such a daunting part of the process."
