Julia is a dedicated member of our advising team, and our essay review team-lead. With nearly 15 years of experience working with students, Julia excels at recognizing and showcasing the unique strengths and personality of each student she works with. Her college admissions expertise is blended with a warm, student-centered approach cultivated from her time spent working with kids of all ages. She collaborates with her students throughout their journey, assisting them with planning extracurriculars and summer activities, brainstorming and refining essays, and developing well-rounded applications that share their unique story.

After earning a B.A. in Communication Studies & Public Relations from Virginia Tech, Julia had a corporate career, working in supplier and client relations and marketing before transitioning to working with youth as a teacher, tutor, coach, and mentor. As a college advisor, Julia has helped students gain admission to a wide range of colleges and universities including Stanford, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Dartmouth, UC Berkeley, UCLA, NYU, Boston College, the University of Michigan, UVA, and USC. Whether a student is considering an Ivy League school or a public research university, pursuing a STEM major or studying the arts, Julia’s thoughtful, empathetic, strategic approach ensures that each applicant presents their strongest and most authentic and compelling self.

Known for her patience, creativity, and ability to connect with students, Julia’s encouraging demeanor fosters a positive and productive experience for her college-bound clients. She works hard to maintain a balance of support and accountability, guiding and including her students at every step. Julia is also a fervent, lifelong learner, routinely expanding her general knowledge and skillset through research and continuing education in college admissions and beyond. She holds a number of certifications, including one in Youth Mental Health First Aid, which has equipped her to support students facing the pressures of the college admissions process.

Outside of Avalon, Julia most enjoys spending time with her husband, her two daughters (one of whom is in the middle of the college application process herself!), and their numerous pets. In her free time, you might find her soaking up sunshine in her backyard, learning something new, tackling home improvement projects, or diving into a creative project.
